Careers at Tuck · Saint John, NB

THIS IS TUCK.

Not your standard job description. Then again, we're not your standard workplace.

TUCK isn’t a typical place to work. And make no mistake, we have no interest in becoming one.

We’re a small (but mighty) independent business with a team of eight and growing in the heart and pulse of Uptown Saint John, working out of a ridiculously beautiful historic building, surrounded every day by furniture, art, design, architecture, history and people.

We’re heading into our 15th year in business, and we’re still growing. Not by accident, and certainly not by standing still. We’ve built something we’re incredibly proud of, and we’re nowhere near finished.

But TUCK has never really been about the stuff. At its core, it’s about people.

The client who walks through our doors looking for a sofa and ends up trusting us with their home. The couple building their first house. The person starting over. The client we’ve known for fifteen years who has become a friend.

We create gathering spaces in our city, maybe the bar you had drinks in last Friday night.

We get to play a role in people’s lives. That’s a privilege, and we never take that for granted.

WE BELIEVE IN SELLING. JUST NOT AT ANY COST.

We love a good sale. We have targets, we know our numbers, and we expect our team to know their products inside and out. We’re in business to succeed, and we’re proud of that.

But here’s where we’re different. We don’t pay commissions. We pay strong salaries and offer great benefits because we believe talented people deserve to be valued for everything they bring to TUCK, not just what they ring through the cash.

We want our team focused on building relationships, earning trust and doing what’s right for the client. Sometimes that means selling the sofa. Sometimes it means telling someone not to buy it.

And we believe both are good for business.

NO ONE IS ABOVE PITCHING IN.

You might help someone choose a dining table, pull fabrics for an interiors project, rearrange the store, photograph a vignette, carry a lamp upstairs or help solve a delivery problem. But also, we lift furniture and we do physically taxing work. There’s no standing around sipping lattes, clutching clipboards or worrying about scuffing our heels. We never wear them. And none of us have nice nails.

In other words, there are glamorous days. And decidedly unglamorous ones. Both count.

WE CARE DEEPLY WHERE WE ARE.

We chose Uptown Saint John because we believe in this city. Independent businesses matter. Beautiful storefronts matter. Art, architecture, restaurants, galleries and a thriving Uptown matter. We’re proud to be part of the community that has supported us from the beginning.

THE DETAILS MATTER. SO DOES KINDNESS.

We take beauty seriously, from the way the store looks to the way a delivery is handled, an email is written or a client is welcomed.

We want ambitious, talented people with ideas and opinions. But none of that matters much if you aren’t kind. Kind to clients, teammates, delivery drivers and the person who walks in just to look. Especially when things go wrong.

GOOD PEOPLE MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

We’re a small team with a lot of knowledge, experience and personality. We work hard, laugh a lot and have enormous respect for one another. We value curiosity, initiative and people who genuinely want to learn. And if you know how to listen and ask good questions? Even better.

WE’RE STILL BUILDING THIS.

After nearly 15 years, we’re still building what comes next. There’s room here to grow, take responsibility, bring ideas forward and help shape TUCK’s future.

We’re not looking for someone who simply wants a job in retail. We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of something truly beautiful. A career.
