Welcome (back) Josh!

"I remember meeting Joshua back in the spring of 2014 when he showed up unannounced on a Saturday morning, portfolio in hand, seeking employment. Those were the days of 'Little Tuck,' when we were operating as a studio in the basement of our home. Within minutes, Joshua landed a job that I hadn't even posted! He was that talented, that confident, and that charismatic.

Over the last nine years or so, he has been a creative staple in the growth of Tuck and Tuck Interiors. We've moved from the basement to expand uptown (twice!), and Josh has been with us every step of the way. However, for several years, we only had him on a 'contract' based position as his partner had a job on the other side of the country. But, we're thrilled to announce that Joshua and his partner have returned to their beloved city and Josh has rejoined the Tuck team full-time, ready to help us grow the business together. Many of you know Josh, and we are certain you'll join us in welcoming him back to our Tuck family." - Judith

Re-introducing Joshua Hayes

"I'm Tuck's senior residential and commercial consultant with over a decade of experience. I'm drawn to minimalist design but am eager to adapt to our clients' style and taste.

After graduating from Algonquin College in 2014, I returned to beloved Saint John and joined Tuck, where my journey began. Life subsequently took me to live in Surrey, BC, for a few years, working part-time with Tuck. Now, having returned, I'm reminded every single day of how fortunate I am to call this beautiful province home, surrounded by nature, kind people, and charming cities, and I am back full time again with the Tuck team!

Decorating isn't just a job for me; it's my passion, my career. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of transforming spaces and experiencing our clients' joy!

Off the clock, you'll find me continually honing my skills and soaking up inspiration from the ever-evolving world of design. When I need to recharge, I head outdoors, where nature's beauty fuels my creativity." - Joshua

Q&A With Josh!

Q: What excites you the most about returning to Tuck full time?

A: What excites me the most about returning to Tuck full time is the opportunity to work closely with our amazing team; Judith, Heather, Nina, Kate, and Jenn. They are an incredible group of people, and I look forward to working with them.

Also, there's nothing quite like the sense of fulfillment I get from decorating and curating someone's space. Seeing their reactions, hearing their feedback, and knowing I've helped create a more comfortable and inviting environment for them is incredibly gratifying. It's the combination of working with this fantastic team and the joy of making a real impact on our clients' lives that truly excites me about being back with Tuck full time.

Q: What did you study at Algonquin College?

A: At Algonquin College in Ottawa, I studied interior decorating for two years. During this time, I acquired a solid foundation in design principles, including colour theory, furniture and lighting design, and many other valuable skills.

Furthermore, my coursework included instruction in computer-aided drafting and Google SketchUp. These skills have become essential in my everyday work, as I use them to create floor plans and 3D renderings for our clients.

Q: How would you describe your personal aesthetic?

A: I'm a bit reluctant to reveal my own personal aesthetic as I don't want to be put into a box. I tend toward a more minimalist, refined aesthetic without a lot of clutter. I like things neat, orderly, and organized. That said, I love design and decor and have a deep appreciation for all styles.

Q: What is your favorite piece of furniture that you own, from Tuck?

A: My all-time favorite piece from Tuck has to be the Patrick Chair. When I joined Tuck in 2014, I instantly fell in love with the chair and made a personal promise to have one in my own home someday. Well, that day has arrived, and I couldn't be happier. The Patrick Chair embodies sophistication, comfort, sleekness, and timelessness, making it a true treasure in my home.

Q: Where do you look for inspiration?

A: When looking for inspiration, my first consideration is always our clients. I delve into understanding their personalities, tastes, and preferences, as this forms the foundation of our approach. Additionally, I find solace and rejuvenation through nature, often going for a walk, or a run when I'm feeling up to it. My current go to spot is Dutch Point Park in Hampton!

I tend to steer clear of excessive online searches because of the overwhelming volume of content. Instead, I prefer to draw inspiration from real-life spaces and experiences.

Otherwise, I turn to our brand partners at Tuck, such as Gus* Modern, EQ3, and Ethnicraft. Their pieces are stunning and can have a significant impact on a space, making them great sources of inspiration.
