Judith’s Top 10 Rustic Spots to Shop in Saint John

It's actually a love letter to our neighbours!

Judith’s love for beautiful and unique decor pieces extends beyond items found from within Tuck, with locally found trinkets and treasures being a source of inspiration in many of our spaces. This can be seen in the first issue of our new TUCK IN online magazine featuring Judith and Robert’s cozy cottage, where many décor gems sourced from around the city can be spotted. From hand-thrown pottery and old boxes to animal sculptures and vintage picture frames, Saint John is a city full of shops containing numerous special curios and wonderful obscurities! Although there are too many to count, Judith has compiled a list of her top 10 local rustic places to shop so that we can all support the community while decorating our homes.

Brass N Things is a go to place for all sorts of metal pieces. From silver, gold, bronze, and of course, brass, this is a great spot to shop for different mixed metals to make your home more visually appealing! Both the candlesticks (top) and fireplace screen (bottom) were purchased here.

This store is full of unique and rare collectibles. We are particularly fond of their collections of antique art frames (as pictured left) and the array of rustic weathered boxes and tins (seen on right).

Handworks Gallery hosts a diverse assortment of artworks, representing over 100 Atlantic Canadian artists! This gallery is home to various art disciplines, like jewelry, paintings, and glasswork. Judith has used some of their ceramics to display some florals!

12 King St, Saint John, NB E2L 1G2

This is another great stop for novelties and rustic décor! Roy's Army Surplus is filled with cool historic pieces, like the perfectly-distressed shotgun shell box (top right) and tin case (bottom right) we found here that help tell a story within the cottage.

61 Canterbury St, Saint John, NB E2L 2C7

Port City Pawn Shop is a fun place to visit for decorative odds-and-ends to help add the perfect cozy touch to any space! Our 2021 holiday cottage Lookbook contained some good finds bought here like the old pair of snowshoes and wall-mounted deer head which were perfectly fit for cottage vibes!

57 Ross St, Saint John, NB E2L 1W9

Our true next door neighbours: the Cobalt Gallery, which is an awesome spot to explore. Packed with eclectic art, (and the added bonus of being pet friendly) we love to visit Cobalt Gallery for sculptural items like the representative pieces of Deichmann (pictured above).

We love Catapult Coffee for its warm atmosphere, with gorgeous wood tables, cozy couches, and a fireplace. Judith’s cottage features a special wood table from Catapult. Along with delicious drinks, treats, and local artisan trinkets, Catapult supports Outflow Ministry. This helps a men’s shelter, meal program, and employment training. It’s the perfect spot for morning coffee while supporting a great cause!

Bonus:

Bonus: Judith was visiting Bobby’s Hospice shoppe to pick up some blown glass goblets. Bobby’s Hospice is a group that works as grief support and also run a shop where you can find beautiful decorative pieces. While here, Judith met Audrey Gould, who is a volunteer, and who happens to have been the previous owner of her cottage on the peninsula! It's a small world!

Uptown Saint John isn’t just where our storefront is; it’s our source of inspiration. This vibrant community keeps us connected and motivated to showcase local shops, galleries, and restaurants.
