A Moody, Elevated Entrance Transformation

About this project:

Every room deserves to feel thoughtfully designed—no matter its size. Entryways are often overlooked during renovations, yet they're one of the most frequently used spaces in a home. As the first room you experience upon arrival and the last you see before leaving, an entrance has the power to set the tone for everything beyond it.

For this project, we worked closely with the homeowners to transform a builder-grade entryway into a space with presence, personality, and purpose. The design began by curating a palette of black, warm brass, and an airy white colour. By embracing darker tones on the walls, trim, flooring, and furniture pieces, we created an atmospheric hallway that immediately feels more sophisticated.

Next, to add depth and visual interest, we introduced the Labyrinth Ephemeral Wallpaper in Noir—an Art Deco-inspired pattern that subtly layers texture and movement into the space. The wallpaper's black-and-gold palette ties seamlessly into the overall design while preventing the darker finishes from feeling flat or heavy.

Lighting was equally important. In moody spaces like this, thoughtful lighting is what transforms dark colour palettes from being dull into being dramatic. The sculptural brass fixtures and warm illumination helped to highlight the space while creating a soft, inviting glow throughout the entry.

The results of this entryway transformation project turned this space from a liminal pass-through into an elevated and memorial foyer that's better connected to the rest of the home.
