New Artist Announcement! TUCK now proudly represents Colin Smith!

We are BEYOND thrilled to announce that TUCK is now representing the work of renowned New Brunswick artist, Colin Smith! You may recognize Colin's work from galleries, exhibitions, and publications spanning across New Brunswick and Canada at large! Most recently in Saint John, his work was featured in the former, Spicer Merrifield Gallery, here on Prince William Street. When the opportunity arose to include Colin's work among our existing collection of talented local artists works, we jumped at the chance!

A bit about the Artist...

Alongside a 20-year-long career teaching high school art, theatre, and English, Colin has maintained an impressive art practice of his own. He got his start in drawing cartoons, notably carrying out a weekly publication in the Salon section of the Telegraph journal over the course of a decade between 2007-2017! His focus has since shifted away from cartoons and more towards large, and often whimsical, pen and ink drawings. He uses metal tip dip pens and mapping pens, because they give a changing line that he finds technical pens cannot match. "I like the finality of ink. Once you put a line down, it is there."  Colin currently works out of his studio in the River Art Centre in downtown Florenceville-Bristol.

Rapid-Fire questions with Colin!

As a way to better get to know Colin, not only as an artist, but as a person, we decided to ask a series of rapid-fire questions! Check out this video to hear his answers...

Below are the latest pieces from Colin Smith, currently available for purchase at TUCK!

"Maps are a prominent theme. I have done a suite of idiosyncratic maps, built around the world that I have loved and experienced. Currently, my maps trace journeys, real and imaginary.

Where the Sugar Refinery Used to Be - $550
City, City Birds, Turkey - $550
Exultation of Fowls - $800
Uptown - $550

"My drawings are usually populated with birds. I draw everything, all subjects and situations, but somehow birds always show up. They are generally simplified and somewhat stylized. But, that is the way birds are always seen, blurry in flight, and racing around the ground. So that is how I draw them."

Fall Habitat - $425
