For Immediate Release: Judith Mackin announces another business expansion into the Uptown Saint John core!
New Brunswick-Saint John: Tuesday: June 14th, 2016
Due to demand and growth – and not quite three months after moving from their north end location to Prince William Street – TUCK STUDIO announces yet another expansion into the Uptown Saint John core! Judith Mackin’s interior design firm Tuck Interiors is the latest tenant to sign a lease with Historica at 38 Grannan Alley.
“When we moved TUCK STUDIO from zero level of our home to the uptown we had projected we would be busy, but we weren’t quite prepared for exactly how busy we’ve found ourselves,” says owner/designer Judith Mackin. “Since opening in our new location, we’ve more than quadrupled sales and traffic. Frankly, we’re surprised by the level of support by our clientele, new and old, from both the greater Saint John area and other areas within the province, specifically Fredericton and Moncton.”
Currently Mackin has two companies running out of the 122 Prince William Street location, in the 1878 building known as ‘the Palatine’: Tuck, the store, featuring the very best in modern furnishings, lighting, art and décor, plus her interior design business, Tuck Interiors (formerly known as PUNCH INSIDE) which offers interior design services to both residential and commercial clients. On the commercial side, Tuck Interior’s current clients include HopScotch, Picaroons (St. Stephen) and Historica Properties. Saint Johners will also be familiar with its makeovers of the Saint John Ale House, Thandi’s, The Robertson (Shadow Lawn Inn), Peggy Bown Dentistry and SJ Psycholgy Centre, to name but a few. Mackin’s designs have been featured in East Coast Living Magazine, HGTV, W Network and the Globe & Mail to name just a few.
“Our team has grown from three to six full-time employees and we’ve simply run out of room in the store for our interior design business. We’d originally built an upper mezzanine to be office space for our design team. However, we’re simply bursting at the seams and need more office space. We’ll now use the upper level to display more furniture and decor for an enhanced shopping experience.”
Tuck Interiors will take over the lower corner space directly across from where Port City Royal and directly underneath the new Italian by Night restaurant (slated to open this fall). The interior design business will also serve as a venue for ‘pop-up’ shopping and to host art and design exhibits throughout the year, thereby reinforcing the work of the designers and artists currently represented at TUCK STUDIO. Additionally, Mackin intends to rely on her background in event management and put the side and front alleys directly outside her new design offices to use as a venue for events, hopefully in collaboration with her neighbors, including Jody Kliffer’s soon to open bar, ‘The Five & Dime’, Yuk Yuk's and Picaroons.
‘The energy uptown is electrifying right now” says Mackin. “Entrepreneurs are snapping up vacant storefronts and signing new leases almost weekly now as the push to reclaim our city centre gains momentum. Part of my obligation as an entrepreneur and a massive supporter and lover of Saint John is to look for opportunity everywhere, and to do my best to create spaces that are creative, interactive and a source of real worth to the uptown environment. We believe that this step we’re taking, in collaboration with Keith Brideau and his team at Historica will offer yet another reason to shop, eat, and invest in the uptown.”
While Mackin cools her heels waiting for renovations to be complete at her new space, she can watch yet another of her team's designs come to life around the corner on Canterbury street for clients Holly and Ken Singh: the soon-to-open HopScotch, Saint John’s first whisky bar.
