A Closer Look at Shawn Hingley’s Midcentury Living Room Makeover!
It’s no secret how much we’re IN LOVE with Shawn Hingley’s home! If you missed it, earlier this week we shared the before & after photos of his midcentury makeover (see the full post here!), and we’re absolutely smitten!
Today, we’d like to dive a little deeper into this living room! When Shawn came to us, he had the major parts of the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom design completely figured out. We had the opportunity to come in at the end and do what we love doing, decorate!
Of course, knowing Shawn’s love for everything Midcentury Modern, we knew straight away the bulk of his new furniture had to be Gus* Modern! He already had an extensive collection of MCM furniture so the pieces we chose had to compliment what he already owned.
Aside from decorating in the living room, we had the opportunity to design a fireplace/TV combo feature wall. We opted to paint the wall Benjamin Moore Hale Navy HC-154, positioned the TV to be right justified above Shawn’s MCM media stand, incorporated chopped wood, and designed the mantle in such a way that Shawn could display his killer Pearl Jam album art!
Tile
The tiles used for Shawn’s fireplace surround are from B&N Flooring; but did you know, Tuck sells a similar tile? The Ceragres “Gone” collection has 12 patterns to mix and match or you can pick your favourite!

Furniture
As mentioned, most of the furniture in Shawn’s living room was sourced from our brand partner Gus* Modern, exclusively from Tuck. With a strong midcentury aesthetic, Gus* is the perfect pairing for Shawn’s existing collection.

A modern update to the classic Gus* Modern Jane Series, the Jane 2 Bi-Sectional retains the iconic, mid-century look while adding contemporary enhancements. It has been cleverly designed so that it can be configured with the chaise on the left OR the right, depending on your floorplan. If your needs change, simply move the chaise and readjust the cushions to convert the design.
