A closer look at Jeff & Laura’s fireplace feature wall transformation!
Have you seen our latest before & after reveal, Tired of your basement? So were Jeff & Laura! Before & After Part 1 + Share to Win! If not, be sure to click the link to see how we helped these long time clients totally transform their basement!
As part of the transformation, we created a focal wall behind their fireplace using Ceragres hexagon tiles, JD Irving Barn Board from Home Depot, Benjamin Moore Twilight Zone 2127-10 paint, and Mitzi Ava Double Scone wall sconces in aged brass! Here’s a closer look at how this wall was transformed.
A wood burning fireplace is just about one of the coziest things to have in a home. The warm, inviting glow makes you want to curl up next to it in a comfy chair with a hot cup of tea and a good book. The goal with Jeff & Laura’s fireplace was to take a functional space and turn it into an area they can enjoy and relax.
We started with the wall behind the fireplace. The Ceragres Ardoise du Bresil slate tiles from Tuck had already been picked out, and we wanted to keep the dark and moody theme with the use of black hexagon tiles (Ceragres Forma form Tuck), barn board, and black paint!
Rather than installing the Ceragres Forma 8″ Hexagon tiles straight across the entire wall, we opted to lay them in a peak formation. This required a bit of planning.
We incorporated two of our comfiest chairs, the The Arie from EQ3! These chairs are perfect for lounging in front of the fire and can easily be moved closer to the living area for extra seating.
The EQ3 Arie Chair is one of the comfiest chairs we sell! The soft curved shell is the perfect shape to form to your body. Paired with plush cushions, we warn anyone who’s going to test it out, you won’t want to get back up! Choose from thousands of fabric and leather combinations to customize it to suit your taste. Visit us in store to order this Canadian made chair!
Available in over 130 fabrics or leathers, along with customizable zipper or welt options, and the choice between a Classic Polished, Elevated Polished, or Elevated Anthracite Base. Pairs with the Arie Ottoman.

Mitzi Ava Double Wall Sconces in aged brass, from Tuck, emit a soft glow and the polished finish contrasts with the barn board to add a bit of glam to the room! The sconce is also available to order as a single and in polished nickel, polished copper, or old bronze!
The Ceragres Forma 8″ Hex Wall Tiles, from Tuck, create a subtle geometric pattern on the wall behind the fireplace. These tiles have a contemporary matte finish and are available in five neutral colours ranging from a light cream to the black tiles shown here.
SLAB Wood from the Hood side tables are designed by Judith Mackin and made right here in New Brunswick using New Brunswick wood! The table is a collaboration between Tuck & JD Irving Ltd. Each one is made in Northern NB by JMN Enterprises. Visit us in store to learn more about SLAB and customize your own end table, coffee table, stool, or dining table!
