Mary Ann explains “We are thrilled to be undertaking this exciting makeover of our restaurant. We know how important it is to continually invest in a business such as ours. When we purchased the business almost 5 years ago, our goal was to attract a younger clientele in addition to maintaining our current customer base. We strongly believe that this latest renovation will accomplish our goals. We look forward to working with Judith Mackin and her team to create a space that will appeal to all of our guests.”

The history of Shadow Lawn dates back to 1870, when Mr. James F. Robertson, founding partner and later President of Manchester Robertson Allison, one of Saint John’s premier department stores, built Shadow Lawn as a summer home in Rothesay.

In 1946 the residence began to evolve from family home to inn. In 1986, Patrick & Margaret Gallagher purchased the property from Willie and Jean Ward.

On July 1, 2010, Patrick & Margaret Gallagher’s son, Jamie, and his wife Mary Ann (McGuire), purchased Shadow Lawn, while working to maintain the Inn’s historical beauty and character, undertook a subtle process of change, attracting new visitors from around the world.

“It’s such a privilege to be involved in the upgrades and changes to Shadow Lawn Inn,” says Mackin, Creative Director of PUNCH INSIDE.   “We think the restaurant design we’ve come up with respects the history of the Inn while bringing it forcefully into the 21st century. These changes will not only involve new interiors but also the rebranding the name of the Side Door Café, something we’re working on with one of our favourite partners, designer Lise Hansen from Bonfire Communications.”

In order to accommodate these renovations, Shadow Lawn and the Side Door Café will be closing at the end of the evening on Sunday, March 15th and will plan to reopen on Monday, March 23rd, 2015.
